Laurie's Charity Contributions

On November 5, 2007

contributions03.jpg On November 5, 2007 Laurie donated a portion of the proceeds from her Carnegie Hall show to Creative Alternatives of New York in support of their work with children who fall on the autistic spectrum.

The donation went specifically to the Andrus Children's Center for children in the "fragile unit" of the Orchard School. The children are considered fragile due to their psychiatric diagnoses, placing each of them somewhere on the autistic spectrum, most commonly, Asperger's Syndrome. The children typically struggle with everyday social interactions and are challenged to read the feelings of others or appropriately manage their own emotional range and responses. CANY groups strive to create a safe space in which to share emotions and experiences, developing a respectful but playful community. For more information go to www.cany.org

    Earth Day 2007

A big thank you to The Green Apple Music Festival for inviting us to play this year as part of their National Earth Day Celebration. They did a great job handling the unexpected number of people who came to be part of the event (the police department reported that we were 15,000 strong that day!) and we all had a lot of fun. I also personally enjoyed being able to give back to my community by performing a free concert only a few blocks from my home. It was a great example for me of thinking globally and acting locally.

And thanks to all of you who came and shared your amazing energy with us on that beautiful day! May we all continue to do the best we can to take care of where we and our children live, breathe and love.

On May 7, 2005 the band donated their talents for a performance at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics Aids Foundation's event in Manhattan. To learn more about this foundation please visit the website: www.pedaids.org

Laurie has started selling her CDs in Target stores. Target requires that her CDs are packaged in a hard plastic. Knowing that this adds to the waste produced in the US she wanted to be able to do something to help the environment. So she's decided to donate a percentage of the proceeds to an earth friendly organization called Earth Share. Please learn more about them by visiting their website: www.earthshare.org

In 2003 and 2004 Laurie, Brian and Susie donated their talents to doing a free show for a group of homeless children. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences the band has had and they would like to encourage other artists and performers to do the same. If anyone is interested in donating a free concert for this group of children please contact Antonio Rodriquez, Director of Special Events for Family Services at 212-361-0693 or by email at arodrigu@dhs.gov
